HIGHVOLT engineer Tobias Mießler testing a HiRES Locator in a mobile test container for the on-site testing of high-voltage cables
Dresden, 1st February 2017
HIGHVOLT has good news for cable manufacturers, grid operators and utility companies: Complex additional testing and time-consuming investigations are no longer necessary to localise a cable breakdown fault.
With the ‘HiRES Locator’ from HIGHVOLT Prüftechnik Dresden GmbH, a breakdown is localised at the moment it occurs.
The ‘HiRES Locator’ is a handy measuring device which integrates seamlessly into testing procedures at the cable factory. It can also be used as an online monitoring system during normal cable operation, or as a mobile diagnostic tool when responding to a fault.
The economic benefits are evident: The time and work which must be invested to find a fault is minimised, there is no need for additional high voltage sources and measuring systems, and the immediate location of a fault enables cable downtimes to be reduced significantly.
Furthermore, the original breakdown pattern is maintained at the fault location. This facilitates determination of the cause of a fault, and is in some cases the only way to track down the cause.
HIGHVOLT will be presenting this new development at the forthcoming Middle East Electricity fair, which will be taking place in Dubai from 14th to 16th February.
Engineers from HIGHVOLT will be present on our stand Z2.K10 to demonstrate the HiRES Locator and to answer all arising questions regarding our high voltage test systems.
