Neue Trends bei der Prüfung von Kabeln vor Ort

Die Resonanzprüfung von Kabeln erlaubt seit Jahrzehnten die Bewertung von Kabeln mit einer Prüfbeanspruchung, die den Betriebsbedingungen am nächsten kommen. Während vor 20 Jahren vor allem kurze Kabellängen bis zu 2 km zu prüfen waren, nehmen die Prüflängen in den letzten Jahren weiter zu, haben 50 und mehr Kilometer erreicht und ein Ende ist nicht abzusehen. Damit wird es notwendig immer mehr Prüfsysteme zusammenzuschalten, oder größere Prüfsysteme zu entwickeln. Neben diesen Tendenzen wollen wir auch die technischen Randbedingungen diskutieren, wie zum Beispiel den Einfluss der Prüffrequenz auf die prüfbare Länge und die Wechselwirkung mit dem Kabeldesign, zum Beispiel die thermische Belastung des Rückleiters im Prüffall.

In order to develop a good testing strategy, one must try to understand the breakdown processes. Only then you can efficiently test cable systems. The product standards provide important information on testing after installation.

Vita

Klaus Vaterrodt studied electrical engineering with a focus on high-voltage technology at the Technical University of Berlin. He then worked as a development engineer for power cables at BICC KWO Kabel Gmbh. He has been with IPH since 1999, working in various areas. He is currently a Senior Engineer in the on-site testing team. He works in the German standardization committees for power cables (UK411.1) and high-voltage testing and measurement technology (K124) and is a member of CIGRE.

Statement

As the benefits of onsite HVAC test in accordance to IEC and Cigre recommendation for HV and EHV cables are getting recognition over alternative methods (VLF and Oscillating wave) of testing HV and EHV cables, the challenge is to set up high powered test systems in compact multi-storey substations. The challenge would be greater with more underground transmission substations are being considered in the future.

Mr. Foo Toon Chuang is a registered Profession Engineer with the Singapore’s Professional Engineers Board for more than 15 years and he has been actively been involved in On-site High Voltage test on GIS, Transformer, and especially HV and EHV Cables for more than 10 years.

Statement

“The commissioning test of extruded cable systems with AC voltage near power frequency best reflects the later stress during operation. Combined with sensitive partial discharge measurements, especially at the accessories, it can reveal weak points in the insulation and thus help to avoid expensive failures in later operation.”

Vita

Peter Coors has studied Electrical Engineering and obtained the engineering degree from the Dresden University of Technology in 1986. Since then he has been with HIGHVOLT Prüftechnik Dresden GmbH (formerly TuR) as a specialist for the development of electronic control equipment and embedded software engineering. He has been in charge of frequency-tuned resonant test systems for field testing of cable systems and GIS for over than 20 years. He is a member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, where he is involved in various working groups for field testing of cable systems.
