On September 9, 2019, several experts were recognized with the IEC 1906 Award in Frankfurt/Main for their outstanding knowledge and dedication to international standardization. Among the award winners was Thomas Steiner, Technical Director at HIGHVOLT.
Thomas Steiner has been an active member of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) since 2005, and Convenor for the following standards since 2008
- 60060-1 (High-voltage test techniques: Part 1: General definitions and test requirements)
- 60060-3 (High-voltage test techniques: Part 3: Definitions and Requirements for On-Site Testing) as well as working group
- 61083-3 (HV test techniques: Requirements for instruments for tests with alternating and direct currents and voltages).
This new standard for measuring AC and DC voltage with digital measuring devices will be published in 2020.
As the German spokesperson for committee TC 42 – HV test and measuring techniques, he has been representing Germany’s interests since 2009, and is entitled to vote on decisions.
IEC has been presenting the IEC 1906 Award to technical experts from around the world every year since 2004. The award recognizes particularly active technical experts in the IEC committees, to honor their outstanding achievements and special dedication to the cause of international standardization. At the same time, the IEC’s annual award commemorates its founding year.
