HIGHVOLT calibration laboratory in Dresden receives additional accreditation for power and impulse current measurements

Press release

The staff of the calibration laboratory are especially proud of the calibration container developed by HIGHVOLT as a compact unit primarily for on-site calibration. The container accommodates a fully fledged calibration laboratory for the calibration of measuring systems for power loss. Dresden, 18th July 2014
"We have not only renewed our accreditation to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, but also significantly widened the scope of accreditation for our calibration laboratory,” says HIGHVOLT engineer Dr. Martin Greschner. "Alongside broadening of the measuring ranges used for the calibration of measuring equipment, we are now authorised to calibrate for additional electrical parameters.”

With immediate effect, the HIGHVOLT calibration laboratory has extended its portfolio of calibration services to include systems for the measurement of impulse current and AC power. The parameter of AC power is used to evaluate the energy efficiency of power engineering equipment. In the case of impulse current calibration, it is possible to calibrate impulse currents up to 200 kA and with a waveform of 8/20 μs, depending on the individual measuring system.
The HIGHVOLT calibration laboratory already holds accreditation for apparent powers up to 200 MVA, active powers up to 200 MW and reactive powers up to 200 Mvar, in each case with a measuring uncertainty of only 0.04%. Head of laboratory Dr. Stefan Maucksch is more than satisfied: “There are only a few facilities which can measure powers of this magnitude with such a small degree of uncertainty. That is a top-class achievement.”

The HIGHVOLT calibration laboratory accepts commissions both from HIGHVOLT Prüftechnik Dresden GmbH and from third parties. “It goes without saying that we provide our services for all measuring systems, irrespectively of whether they are HIGHVOLT systems or from other manufacturers,” says Maucksch. “And that is not just because we are obliged to do so in accordance with the international standards and regulations underlying our accreditation. It is also inherent to our corporate philosophy to place technical diligence and the interests of all clients at the centre of our attention.”

The accreditation of the HIGHVOLT calibration laboratory covers the calibration of measuring systems both in the permanent laboratory in Dresden and on site where the equipment is being used.
Accreditation was first received in 1999. It is granted for periods of five years in each instance, and has been renewed each time without exception ever since. The responsible auditing body is Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH.
